Chris Daughtry, Copy Cat?

There's a little controversy brewing over Chris Daughtry's version of "I Walk the Line" that he performed Tuesday on American Idol.

Angry fans on the American Idol message boards say that Daughtry did not "make it his own" as the judges praised, but instead ripped off a version performed by the alternative rock band Live.

I think the fans should cut Daughtry a break. Almost every song on the planet has an alternative, "stripped down" version. It's something that cover bands do all of the time.

However, if Daughtry decides to do an acoustic, bare-bones version of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" next week, these irate fans might be on to something!
