American Idol Preview & Song List

Tonight's American Idol theme is "The Music of Elvis Presley". Since Elvis can't make it, the AI producers came up with "legendary music mogul" Tommy Mottola. You might better remember him as that old dude who married Mariah Carey several years ago.

Here is the set list for tonight's American Idol:

Elliott Yamin: "Trouble" and "If I Can Dream"

Chris Daughtry: "A Little Less Conversation" and "Suspicious Minds"

Taylor Hicks: "In the Ghetto" and "Jailhouse Rock"

Katherine McPhee:
"Hound Dog/All Shook Up" and "Can't Help Falling in Love"

I think the night is Taylor's to win or lose. He just needs to make sure he doesn't come off as an Elvis impersonator or else Simon will nail him with the "copycat performance" and "karaoke" criticisms. Taylor is once again employing the one fast song/one slow song approach allowing him to be insane and serious all in the same night. I would have preferred to hear Taylor sing "Burning Love" instead of "Jailhouse Rock" as it is a fairly challenging vocal.

Chris has definitely picked the best song in "Suspicious Minds". If he can nail it, he just might steal the night from Taylor. Also, Chris wisely chose "A Little Less Conversation" which might be more familiar to some of the younger voters since it was remixed and released as a single in 2002.

Katherine and Elliot are not going to be factors tonight and I predict one of them is going home tomorrow.

Dolf -- can you do some research and let us know what cheesy shows we can get addicted to this summer? I am starting to panic because all the good shows are ending after sweeps month. Also, what do you think of "Deal or No Deal" ? Finally, I just wanted to say that I've come around on "American Inventor" -- now that the pathetic have been weeded out, its very interesting. Thanks, Wendy
