Agassi v Baghdatis

It was no surprise... After 3 1/2 grueling hours, he went down like a bag of bricks. Cramps had finally got the best of him at 4-4 in the fifth and final set. Although he got up and kept playing, everyone knew he wasn't going to win as he hobbled around the court in an almost Chaplanesque manner.

Of course the he I am talking about is 21 year old Marcos Baghdatis. You couldn't possibly have thought I was talking about his opponent, 36 year old Andre Agassi? The Andre Agassi who could barely walk after his first round match? The Andre Agassi who recieved a 20 minute long cortisone shot into his spine so he could continue to compete? Shame on you... What were you thinking?

Agassi defeated Bagdatis 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 7-5 and produced his second classic victory in as many years at the Open. Just when Agassi v Blake was settling in as the go-to rain delay broadcast (after years of Connors v Krickstein), Agassi had to go and muck things up with another classic!

Agassi plays his third round match on Saturday versus Benjamin Becker and it's a safe bet that they will be playing under the lights.

Great match! But its going to be very hard for Agassi to recover from it.
