The Sissyfication of America!

Stories like this infuriate me!
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y., Nov. 13 — Albert Argibay, a bodybuilder and a state correction officer, was at a Planet Fitness gym with 500 pounds of weight on his shoulders one afternoon this month when the club manager walked over and told him it was time to leave. Mr. Argibay, the manager explained, had violated one of the club’s most sacred and strictly enforced rules: He was grunting. Read full story at New York Times.

This is further evidence that we are becoming a nation of pansies. Another perfect example of political correctness gone awry and the emasculation/feminization of the American male! People who complain about noise in a gym are the same people that don't want kids to keep score when they play sports.

Of course, I have a personal motivation here... I was just mildly reprimanded a couple days ago at my gym for excessive noise (grunting). I was shocked. I did a search for "no grunting in gym" and ran across the Planet Fitness story.

No noise in a gym? C'mon! Wear some headphones! Get over it, you big sissies! It's a gym not a coffee shop!

This kind of "sissyfication" of America makes me nauseous! John Wayne must be rolling over in his grave!

I'm sure the chirping heads (def: broads who stand around talking, not working out, at the gym) get away with their constant chatter at Planet Fitness.

Hey Monica Seles, suck it up. These aren't exactly your "Rocky-Balboa-type-gyms" you're working out in. These YMCA-like clubs, cater to all kinds of people. Most of whom don't need to hear you grunt your way thru a 30 pound leg press.

They're trying to make money, and I'm sure they have more paying "non-grunters" than grunters. You just gotta know where you're at. Anyone racking up 500 pound presses at the Y needs to find a new gym. Why would you want to share a place with 55 year old Betty and her 15 pound leglifts?

Some sports bars are more "family centered" (BW3's), others are more geared towards guys pounding beers and yelling at the TV's. If you want to yell and cuss, go to the right spot.

GW,

FYI... As for *my* leg presses, I am doing multiple repetitions with 700lbs!

Get off of my plane!

P.S. I knew the Machine would take my side on this one - even if it is reluctantly! ;)

Ok, I'll bite a little harder.

If you were not supposed to be at a specific gym doing large lifts, ie the 500 lb presses at the Y, then said gym would not have that much weight available.

If granny is upset you are grunting whilst putting up large amounts of weight, and the 'gym' chastises you for making such a horrendous (*gasp!*) noise, they should not have provided the weight for you.

What happens if granny, putting up a grand-spanking new record of 35 lbs, grunts a little? Do they kick her out? They should. That bitch should keep her mouth shut, right?

As for the original question, the answer is 'Yes'. America is filling up with sissies. I think it has something to do with all those shitty parents out there who never 1) scold their children, 2) give their children responsibilities, 3) think their children do anything wrong, 4) blame schools, teachers, employers, other parents, etc if their children do anything wrong.

However, that being said, the gym has every right to do this. Whether or not it will survive the market will be a testament to just how sissified America is.

Sorry D, if you're racking almost half a ton, you da man.

As for the "sissyfication" of america. I just think the issue is more about people not respecting others enough. It's all about me.

Ironically, I think reasons for it are eerily similar to the 4 that WM listed.

Must of mis-clicked.... The last post(2:46) was mine. I don't want to be accused of hiding.

Damn, I would have been all over the Monica Seles call. Too bad GW beat me to it.

FYI - Pat Robertson is Leg Pressing a ton - Looks like you've got some work to do!

Yeah, leg pressing...

If you

a) hold on to/push your knees with your hands
b) only move the weight about 6 inches
c) have the incline so low you may as well be horizontal

you are not leg pressing much weight. I think a 12 year old girl could leg press as much as Pat Robertson under these circumstances.

If your 700 lb lifts look like this, Dolfer, you need to fix your form. Not to say you couldn't do 700 lbs; just saying the amount of weight does not a good lift make.
