Dolf Zone Deep Thought of the Day

Human beings do not have the mental and philosophical capacity to handle guns, just as they can not handle religion.

A gun can certainly have positive uses. It can protect you from a knife-wielding mental patient. Guns can even be used for entertainment and semi-sports-like endeavors.

As for religions, most of them have good intentions. Yet they all seem to devolve into a death match. How many people have died because "My religion is better than your religion?"

Throughout history, we (humans) have a knack for taking good things and ruining them. How exactly does society benefit from the mass production of easily available automatic weapons? Have more people saved themselves from armed intruders than have been violently killed or accidentally shot? There's no way! The gun game is controlled by big business, the lobbies, and the bought-and-paid-for government officials who should be protecting us. The Bill of Rights gives citizens the right to bear arms, not the right to bear an arsenal!

Also, I think it's going to be Blake vs Jordin in the finals of American Idol with Blake taking home the Idol crown...

I don't know what to think on gun control. I think we should be allowed to have a gun, but, man do we really need semi-automatic weapons? I agree with Dolf on some of this.

The argument is always made, "the constitution gives us the right to bear arms." True. But, wasn't society a tad different back then?

We were an infant nation without an organized Army/Navy/etc... The average citizen would be expected to help fight off any attack of another nation. Clearly not the case today. Of all things I need to worry about today, Mexico invading my neighborhood is not one of them.

It's a tough call, the answer has to lie in the middle somewhere. But, I think we're clearly too far one sided currently.

Nut cases will always exist. Lack of guns won't prevent that. But, shouldn't we make their job a little tougher to mass kill?

Go Hokies.

what's Dolf Zone's take on WE's new show "Wife, Mom, Bounty Hunter?"

GW, the gun manufacturers and various gun lobbies have very wisely tied the ownership of automatic weapons to "freedom".

I am not against someone owning a normal gun (think old West) , but there is absolutely no point in having powerful, automatic weapons available to the general public.

Such weapons serve no use other than offering the owner the ability to kill many people very quickly. And of course to generate huge sums of money for the gun manufacturers.

WW, I only have time to watch one bounty hunter-themed show and that's the Dog!

I was out yesterday, so you got a day of reprieve.

First, to disect things you said:

How many people have died because "My religion is better than your religion?"

On a much smaller scale, how many people have been injured/killed because "My sports team is better than your sports team!", "My car is faster than your car!", etc. Should be get rid of sports? Cars?

Throughout history, we (humans) have a knack for taking good things and ruining them.

Again, when scaled down, this applies to individuals as well. Why can't we just blame the psychotic nutbag? Didn't he take something potentially good (guns) and totally ruin it?

Have more people saved themselves from armed intruders than have been violently killed or accidentally shot? There's no way!

Have more armed intruders AVOIDED intruding because there might be a gun? If so (I have no stats for this, but I'm sure someone does), have they not, in fact, saved themselves? And they didn't even have to use the gun.

I agree the common, every day citizen does not need an automatic weapon. Automatic weapons are designed to kill/injure many people at one time. Thus, they just don't fit the bill in 99.9% of self-defense situations.

Let us take a look at England. It reportedly (multiple news sources, no statistics provided) has a much higher rate of violent crime than in the US (except for rape and murder), yet they have a national ban on guns. A LOT OF THAT WAS GUNS!! What does that tell you? When the bad guys go crazy, they can find a gun anywhere. If there is no citizen wielding equal power to threaten them and cause them fear, WHY SHOULDN'T THEY DO WHAT THEY WANT?
