And the Winner for Best Picture is? Who Cares! Part 2

Back in 2006 I submitted the following landmark post,

"And the Winner for Best Picture is? Who Cares!"

The best film nominees were just released. And as I predicted, it is a rather motley, yawn-inducing lineup...

* Brokeback Mountain
* Capote
* Crash
* Good Night, Good Luck
* Munich

How Cinderella Man and Walk the Line did not make the cut confounds me! This stupidity continues to show how out of touch Hollywood is with its customers...

Check back soon for more complaints on this topic!

I can pretty much post the exact same thing for this year... So here it goes...

The best film nominees were just released. And as I predicted, it is a rather motley, yawn-inducing lineup...

* The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
* Frost/Nixon
* Milk
* The Reader
* Slumdog Millionaire

How The Dark Knight and WALL-E did not make the cut confounds me! This stupidity continues to show how out of touch Hollywood is with its customers...

On a serious note, the Oscars had a great chance to connect with viewers this year in the Best Picture category. WALL-E was the *best* reviewed film of the year and a box office smash. The Dark Knight was the top grossing film of the year and received overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Both of these films deserved nominations. And both of these films will still be relevant many years from now. I am positive no one is going to remember most of this year's best picture contenders ten years from now. Actually, one year from now is probably a better estimate...
